    What is going on?

Okay... my computer seems to have caught something. I think.

I load up internet explorer and I get a page like this

Insecure internet activity. Threat of virus attack.

Due to insecure Internet browsing yuo pC can easily get infected with viruses, worms and trojans without your knowledge, and that can lead to system slowdown, freezes and crashes.
Also, insecure Internet activity can result is revealing your personal information.
To get full time advanced real-time protection for PC and Internet activity, register KvmSecure.

And then there's two options, both of which lead to a website where you can download this "protection."

So have I caught something and therefore need to change every password and every lock on the house and so on?

Or is it just google being google or something?

FYI: I have Norton Anti-Virus, which is vastly out of date, and which I'm also unallowed to replace as this isn't actually my computer.

I'm only thinking it may be something nasty as I pulled a file off of an unofficial website without checking how official the website was. I should have gone and found the proper link to the spiderweb site and got the proper version from them, instead of finding some pack of all of them on google.

    Meh.. eagle eye hindsight.

    Comments anyone?

Sounds like you've got some malware....reminds me of The Register's Anatomy of a malware scam.

    Its your standard spyware.

Use the usual packages to get rid of it - a quick search in the software forum should provide loads of information if needed

Its quite rare to find official porn sites

As agent said search around the forum and you will find the answer you require. Alternatively you can download a trial version of an internet security software like kaspersky, or bullguard and use it to clean up your pc.
