    WMP issues

I'm not really a fan of WMP, but quite a few streaming services use it.

Quite simply, I can't connect to any online services, radio 1 for example. By right clicking on the player and choosing "Show error details" I get:

Windows Media Player cannot play any items in the playlist. To find information about the problem, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the icon next to each file in the List pane.
Clicking web help takes me to here.

Googling the error code provides plenty of possible solutions, but none seem to work.
I've gone into tools-> options -> and ticked "connect the the internet (overrides other commands)" as a lot suggest, but no luck.
I have also disabled the Windows firewall to see if it was that - nope. No other security software is installed.
Plugging the PC directly into the modem hasn't made any difference either, not that I suspected it was a network issue.
Lowering the security settings and setting it to always accept cookies also gives no change.
The XP machines on the network connect and work fine.
Downloading the .asx file with Wget on another machine and then opening it on this one causes the same issue, so its getting the file just not connecting to the stream.
This happened on my last Vista install - yesterday was a fresh reinstall with all updates.

There is nothing fancy about my internet connection, everything is standard apart from using OpenDNS, which I have disabled for testing purposes.

I'm lost as to what I can try next - any suggestions?

    Re: WMP issues

Wow, never heard of that. I do use WMP 11 all the time, but not for streaming, usually. I don't have any ideas, but I'll look around and see if I can find anything.

Wow, I've found nothing about this, at least anything you didn't already try. It seems you stumbled upon a real stumper, mate.

Any possibility that your ISP could be proxying you?

    Re: WMP issues

I found the issue for reference - there are a lot of posts on forums and I was unable to find anyone that had resolved it so hopefully this will help someone

It's one of two things. I don't know which as I didn't test after each change.

    1) Disabled Windows Firewall. Restored all defaults on firewall. Made sure WMP was allowed access and re-enabled.

    2) I deleted everything in "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player". You will need to show hidden and system files. I also deleted the files in "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Media\11.0"

I am 90% sure its the latter one, as I'm sure I've done the first before.

And thats it, the dreaded C00D10B5 error gone!
Connected to all the BBC Radio stations and various other audio streaming services without issue. Hurrah
