Smile Windows Networking User Display App

    hey there!

i was just wondering if anyone knows of a little application that is able to display a little balloon box or little message whenever a user connects to a share on windows.

i know i can go through computer management and shared folders to see who is connected - but is there a 'widget' that would just pop up and say when someone connects?

thanks in advance for your help,

    rory

it's a cheap fix, but you can set the task manager window to always on top, double-click on the border inside the window & it'll go itnoa borderless "kiosk" mode - resize it & stick it in a corner.

can't suggest anything more contructive i'm afraid

Theres a bit of software out there, just trying to remember the name. You can set quotas for everyone, get it to make a sound / popup when people connect etc...

Ill try and find it for you.

Not quite what you're after, I think, but there are a couple of utilities I found that might be useful:

    System Tray Share Monitor 1.0
"This tool allows you to look real-time at all open Windows NT / 2000 connections open on your system, through a convenient icon in your system tray. Features: - Realtime monitoring of who is logged into your shares - Logging ability - look at a history of your share's activity - Search for files that are open based on a search criteria - Filter session information, search for file information - Easily close stuck sessions and open files"

(Company website no longer exists, but this is a mirror of the file to download it.)

    Lockdown Share Monitor 1.0.6
"The Share Monitor allows you to view all network shares and current or former network connections on your computer. It will also allow you to see hidden shares. Options are included to toggle from hidden shares to visible shares and even report if a share is missing a password. IP reporting and IP filtering and blocking are also included."

(The company website is cheesy and very "Steve Gibson-esque", this utility is no longer advertised on their site either, so I have no clue if you can still get licences for it.)

    Disclaimer:
Not even downloaded these products so I can't vouch for them
