Nice review of the new version of GIMP at Webmonkey.com
Thanks for that - I have always found GIMP pretty good - even in its previous incarnations. For what I need, photoshop is ridiculous overkill!

My broadband speed - 750 Meganibbles/minute
Fantabulous.. shame 16bit is only experimental though.
I'm lucky that I have CS2, but the only thing I really use that for that the GIMP doesn't do perfectly is RAW conversion...
Almost all other tasks that I need to do can be done with the GIMP, however the UI is still not the most intuitive thing in the world. But being fair, neither is photoshop's!
(greenend?)
Try the new UI, it's apparently much more intuitive, though my first install borked so I'm going to try again to see if it's better. I convert RAW using other programs now then import to the Gimp.
Never used the full application but I use the Gimp portable from a Pen drive installation from portableapps.com, nothing else will do when you need to edit images!
Think I might just download this and give it a go!!
Thanks for the heads up.
