    MediaPortal 1.0 RC3 is out

    http://www.team-mediaportal.com/news..._released.html

    Looking really good!

A new bundled skin has been included too which give MP a much needed makeover, really looking forward to trying it out.

    Change logs:
    MediaPortal itself: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/c...p?project_id=1
    TVServer: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/c...p?project_id=3
    DeployTool/Installer: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/c...p?project_id=6

And the road maps for 1.0.0.0 forward
    MediaPortal itself: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/r...p?project_id=1
    TVServer: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/r...p?project_id=3
    DeployTool/Installer: http://mantis.team-mediaportal.com/r...p?project_id=6

By the sounds of things, MediaPortal 2 is also progressing well in the background, with a 0.1 preview release on the cards in the not too distant future.

Re: MediaPortal 1.0 RC3 is out

Hmmm, I might give MP another go. The functionality of MP over Vista MC is amazing, but MP looks too much like MCE 2005 to me....even with skins like xface.

The new skin shown above is designed for 4:3 sets, so will probably look very poor on widescreens! You would think widescreen would be the first priority.

Another gripe about MP is that navigating the UI with the MS remote is a lot more complicated than in Vista MC. As much as I would love to move over to MP permanently...I just can't give up the Vista UI; hopefully MP 2 will change that.

PowerDVD does bluray. You can get a plugin for mediaportal which loads powerDVD so you won't need keyboard/mouse

Re: MediaPortal 1.0 RC3 is out

Using a plugin that leaverages PowerDVD (or similar) is going to be the only way to handle BluRay until someone releases an OSS player or MS bundle BluRay media handling with the OS.

Well they did a survey recently about skins and aspect ratios and I think they were a little surprised at the results, hence the promise to get the widescreen skin out as soon as possible.

Suits me though, although my main display is a 16:9 plasma, it expects a 4:3 VGA input so the screen does all the stretching fine.

I've not used Vista MCE, but there has been a lot of discussion on how the interface should be structured to MP2. I would expect this to be a lot more flexible that MP1.
