Getting Money Back for XP licence

Does anyone know if you are legally entitled to get money back from Microsoft or a PC manufacturer for not accepting the licence agreement for Windows that come bundled on PC's/Laptop's?

If Windows is genuine there should be a way to get it up and running. Did you speak to Microsoft? Did you speak to the PC manufacturer?

There's plenty of coverage at places like Slashdot of this being done, but I'd imagine it's more than a small amount of faff. Is it worth your time and effort for the $52.50 USD refund? I also don't know if it's been done in the UK.

That's right, system builders pay nowhere near the amount you might think due to bulk purchasing power.

Actually if I remember right someone at hukd posted a thread on how to do this. They basically bought a computer from dell with windows xp on and then went through a "quite" lengthy process for the refund.

Give us a sec and I'll try to find it.

Read of a person getting a refund from PC World for around £56. This was several years ago, and can't remember if refund was issued by PC World (might of been an Advent notebook) or Microsoft.

Its really not worth the effort. I looked into it and it takes ages and is rather hit and miss.

Re: Getting Money Back for XP licence

There were some posts around the place like this when spore came out. The conclusion basically was that since the EULA isn't visible before you buy, then you don't know what you're getting yourself into. If you don't accept, then you haven't used the product, so are entitled to a refund.

I am curious though. Are you actually trying to legitimately get a refund for something you don't agree with or are you just testing the system?
