Lightbulb Any software to compare JPEGS (to save my brain?)

I am currently trying to get all my pics into one place to back them up, I have a folder full of pics on my HDD then also lots on my laptop but many have been duplicated over time. I could copy them all and back them up easily but I'm guessing there is abough 1Gb of duplicates so want rid of them.

Is there any software that compares pics (providing a preview so I can confidently delete one version) either by:

    - Size matching exactly
    - Name matching
    - Any other method?...

I've spent hours so far removing them but it is a nightmare & i've barely scratched the surface, any help folks?!

    Thanks!

Not specifically for JPGs, but directory Opus should have some pretty advaced file sync and comparison functions. I've never used it in anger before, but others on here have. I think Agent is a big fan.

I just had a play with ViceVersa free for a similar thing for work, it can do CRC-32 matching as well as size/time/date.

Why do people keep posting software issues in GD?

because it's not clear it should be in operating systems (I did look honest!) Maybe if it happens a lot the forum title needs to be altered a bit ?...

Will take a look at those thanks guys!

I believe it's called "Operating Systems and Applications" i.e. software you use on your PC.

Re: Any software to compare JPEGS (to save my brain?)

I've used visipics and Duplicate images finder in the past, but then to just use a general duplicate finder when clearing out/comparing duplicates caused by backups etc.

rich - duplicate images finder looks interesting, any reason you went to 'double killer' instead?

Re: Any software to compare JPEGS (to save my brain?)

Mainly because of how I do my backups - I find I have duplicates of many different types of files, and the duplicate killer does the particular job I need using it's options pegged to certain criteria.

As far as images go, I'm quite good at weeding out naff/similar images as I download them from my camera so don't tend to need the extended features of a specific duplicate image tool I guess.

It is a few months since I used the image programs, but from memory, Visipics was the better of the two.

Also, IIRC Google's Picasa has a duplicate finder function too.

Re: Any software to compare JPEGS (to save my brain?)

I used duplicate killer with no problems, 600odd images & 900-odd mb (out of 6gig of images/vids) so worthwhile doing!

Got lots, & lots, & lots of pics of our little 'un from phones/cameras/etc so they do get moved around a bit. Cheers rich!
