    Question regarding Student Licenses

So let's say I buy product X on a student license - am I allowed to use it for commercial purposes?

Also - does the license still allow me to use the software once I graduate? (Also for commercial purposes?)

I'm in the latter stages of Uni at the moment, thinking about buying some software, but I'm wondering if it would be worth my time.

You need to read the small print - but I'm pretty sure - no - not for commercial use.

    Re: Question regarding Student Licenses

I'm not so sure peter, it really depends on what software, and what he intends to do with it.

I.E. if he buys the adobe CS4 suite, any images, websites, etc.he creates with this software he can use for whatever purpose he wants.

    In this case;
    1. yes you would be able to use it for commercial purposes.
    2. yes the license allows you to use it after uni (that's why so much sware is brought by students just before they leave full time education)
    3. wether or not it would be worth your time or not, only you can answer that.

But ihe isn't talking about Adobe...

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/su...655301033.aspx

Thi9s link gives details for the Student and home edition - you may need to search for the exact edition you are purchasing - but this page states that student and home edition may not be used for commercial purposes.

I know he wasn't talking specificaly about adobe, that's the problem, he didn't specify anything, so answering his post is not easy.

By the way, he didn't mention Office either, it's not the only thing that students get a discount for, there's adobe, Corel, et al.

    Re: Question regarding Student Licenses

I'm with Peterb on this one: generally the student licenses are quite specific that it cannot be used for commercial purposes (designed to stop companies buying up loads of student licenses and cutting off a major revenue stream for the publisher) but without knowing which particular "product x" you're talking about it's impossible to be 100% certain.

Why not ask the developer/publisher and get the info straight from the horses mouth?

    I am also a student...

Though I've never bought student software. Ever.
