    side-by-side configuration...

    Basically i installed a game (bully) and I tried to launch it and it shows up saying can't launch because the side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I looked at the Event viewer and it says this:
    Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",ver sion="8.0.50727.762" cannot be found
    I asked and searched on the internet and said that i needed to install Visual C++ 2005 but then it installs, then it just flashes off when the progress bar reaches halfway. I suppose it hasn't fully installed because the same error shows up. Then I found Visual C++ 2008 so I gave it a go and it installs completely! But guess what? The error is still there! Any ideas to solve the problem? I'm dying to play that game!
    Once you got a Mac, you won't go back (apart from playing games, of course).

    OpenMP is a library used for parallel programming. I have no idea why 1) a game would want it, and 2) you wouldn't have it if you needed it

    2008 != verson 8.

    It's intresting to know why it wants that DLL. As hex says, i can't see why a game would use OpenMP.

    It also sounds like the game installer failed, try disabling anti-vrius etc and re-installing the game?

    Failing that look in your GAC "C:\Windows\Assembly" and see if you can see any DLL matching the name but not the version.

    funny enough people had the same trouble as I did just install the Visual C++2005 and then worked... I'm trying to install it on other mates machine and see if it's my PC 'anomalouscy' or the install is actually no good.
