Need help with an extremely annoying date format problem

Hi, basically every time i restart the pc the short date format changes to YY/MM/DD or something similar
everytime i change it back to dd/mm/yy but without fail it changes back every restart.

It affects all programs including all microsoft programs and most annoyinly microsoft money.

    Any idea whats causes this?

    Thanks

Not entirely sure. However, it might be worth checking that your installation of windows is setup as UK, not USA.

If it only started to happen recently, check what changes you have made to the system (such as installs).
Does it happen in safe mode?

I don't suppose you're set to synch to an NTP server, and that for some reason the NTP pool has switched it's date format? That said... were that the case I would expect it to revert mroe often than every restart.

Take a look in msconfig at the startup list and see what you have in there. Odds on there's some kind of "helper" in there which is handily doing this for you.

PC barely connects to the internet so NTP is turned off.
Nothing major has been added in ages.

Good idea about safe mode thou, i will check that when i can next and get back to you

this really does sound like some kind of 'helper' application as people have said.

only way i can think of narrowing it down if there is nothing obvious would be to use regmon, and some filters.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

Re: Need help with an extremely annoying date format problem

bit of a late reply i know but still have the problem,
in safe mode the date format doesnt reset.

i been thro all the programs and nothing should be resetting the date format,
Is there an easy to identify something that would reset the date on start up?

i tried using regmon but its like needle in a haystack

If it doesn't happen in safe mode, then it's defo a OS / Program issue somewhere along the line.

The only real way from here is disabling all programs from start-up so it's as close to safe mode as you can get (No need to go as far as the drivers yet), and then re-enable one or two programs at a time and checking

Time consuming I know - but it's the only sure way

No date format settings in the bios.

Downloaded windows defender, going to disable just about everything at start up like you said and turn them on 1 by 1.

Re: Need help with an extremely annoying date format problem

Have you got the OSA.exe service running?

If you have language auto detect turned on in word this may be the service causing the problem you are having. Try disabling it in MSconfig
