    FLASH 10 ? problems

Ever since Flash 10 was launched, my system preiodically crashes and the cause seems to be Flash related.

Unfortunately running such an antique pc (W98 on P2 350Meg, but Im developing something better) I cannot update to Flash 10, so have to live with it for the time being.

Personally I think Flash 9 (which is what I have) is being terminally upset by something new in Flash 10 which is a shame, and a sad reflection on the developers who clearly dont appear to have bestowed on Flash 9 the ability to just ignore instructions it doesn'y understand. Well thats my theory anyway.

But are there any ways around this? It even crashed me out of this forum (only once so far) but I think it must be an ad or some other animation thats doing it. Dont understand the 'details' to elaborate further. And yes I have tried re-installing Flash, and repairing IE and neither helped.

My partners XP system did the same until she updated to F10, now all runs smoothly for her.

Wow thats speedy - I already have Flash9 - but I guess i could try and re-instal it again, will post again if successful. Trouble is I cant force it to fail as Im not sure where the killer instructions are coming from, as by the time they have - Im dead.

    Re: FLASH 10 ? problems

Well I just been to Adobe and there's a note on there about lack of ongoing support for W98 and all they suggest is installing the absolute latest version of 9 and hoping. Maybe I might not have had the absolute latest version, but I have now, so lets wait and see - fingers crossed.

I'll ad to this post later and report latest events.

    Thanks for your pointer GoNzO.

    Re: FLASH 10 ? problems

Speaking seriously, how reasonable is it to expect a company to commit significant development resources to continued support for a 10 year old OS with marginal remaining installed user base?

I accept that and dont really expect anything more, thats quite reasonable, but a shame nevertheless (that if my original assumption is correct) that Flash9 gets terminally upset by Flash10 instructions that it should crash, rather than do nothing.

Soon to be irrelevent as I have a new PC on the drawing board, and until then, I will just live with it, but I have installed the latest version of Flash9 just in case that helps.
