Angry How can i get flipping Vista's Folder View To Stick!!!

How do you get Vista's Folder View and column headers to stick? It seems to want to change randomly to Small, Medium or Large icons, and the column headers to "Date taken", "Tags", "Rating" etc... regardless of what file type is in there.

With Vista it seems that every time I change a folder to details view, the column headers are setup for Pictures and Videos i.e. "Date taken", "Tags", "Rating" etc...

How can I change it so that it sticks to details view, and whenever I select details view for a folder, it displays standard columns for documents such as "Name", "Date Modified", "Type", "Size"?

After setting it up go to Tools. Folder options. View. Apply to all folders. Might do the job.

Afaik, it can't be done. Windows has this 'feature' where it arbitrarily reassesses the folder content type, despite what you tell it.

Have you tried: 'Organize' (sic) > 'Folders and Search Options' > View tab

On 'Advanced settings' tick Remember each folder's view settings.

I have that checked, but Vista frequently likes to revert the settings anyway...

Re: How can i get flipping Vista's Folder View To Stick!!!

This annoys me so much. I to like having large icons, it just looks better and easier to find things imo. I also like having windows maximized and just switching between them in the task bar or alt + tab (or windows key + tab if I'm being fancy). Everytime I open a folder, I want it to be maximized and with large icons.

I wish there was a way of doing this .

Re: How can i get flipping Vista's Folder View To Stick!!!

I like all my folders, except for a few in details view. I use a fairly simply registry edit - put the following into a .reg file:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
    "FolderType"="NotSpecified"
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size"=dword:00004e20
Once you've run that go into a folder, set it to how you want every folder to look (e.g. details view), then go into the folder options, under the view tab click apply to folders, then reboot.

Once that's done to change certain folders to different views (e.g. your Pictures folder to thumbnail view) you'll need to right click a blank area within the folder, click 'customize folder', select the view type and click apply.

Re: How can i get flipping Vista's Folder View To Stick!!!

or open the folder, set it up as you like then hold ctrl and close the window

this is meant to set how the folder will open again - window location or maximised and view type. this feature has been around since windows 3.1

    hope this helps

Re: How can i get flipping Vista's Folder View To Stick!!!

You would hope but at the end of the day it keeps resetting itself. I ended up editing the reg file to allow 50000KB instead of their default 20000KB and all is fine again. For some reason instead of storing all folders as the same it treats everything as its own folder/entity for the likes of music, video, data, general etc etc and each has its own allocation from what I can see.
