    xp activation

    can anybody give me some advice please
    i have just installed some new ram on my system and its asking me to activate windows

    wot should i do add my old ram back in with the new one or should i try something else

    Yeah, activate it. All that's happened is that Windows has detected a change to your hardware configuration, nothing to worry about.

    All it means is that xp has noticed a change in your pcs configuration and wants to make that this licence is only used on 1 machine (it will just update it's configuration datbase), just use the online activation, no worries.

    ok now i seen to have left it a wee bit to long it will not let me log in is there an alternative

    It will let you activate fine. If you don't reactivate within 30 days of the hardware change then it will let you log on but take you straight to the activation window, and won't allow you to access anything else.

    If it says you are unable to activate it online, it's probably Microsoft playing it safe, or your using an illegal key.

    If you are using a legal key, dial the freephone number you get from the activation wizard and the automated system will ask you along the lines of "Is this for a new PC press 1, or if you have reinstalled press 2" and it will provide you with the activation key.
