    Power Options

What do the power option in Vista actually do. How do they save power as the only thing i can see is the fact that they turn the monitor off.
    Do they effect performance

They do several things but it's mostly functional on laptops.....

There's nothing in there that will get you a performance increase.

    Re: Power Options

There's plenty of ways those settings save power:

    - Lower the CPU multiplier to lower clock speed
    - Turn off HDDs
    - Turn off USB devices
    - Turn off monitor
    - Hibernate/Standby using S3 or S2 (very useful)

They're just ones off the top of my head. They can effect performance e.g. waiting for your HDDs to spin up, but for me the power saving is worth much more. None of those will be an issue if you were playing a game.

    Re: Power Options

On the note of sleep mode (sorry to but in), but does it need special hardware to run, as if I click it in my system (see my system) which is vista Home Premium 32, it just goes black, then straight back to the login screen???@
