Something wierd going on with tags/file/folder names

Im using Album Covert Art Downloader, and this happens on about 2/3 down my list of albums:

Wierd symbols ÿþ at the front of the Artist and Album names

The folder names look fine in Windows Explorer, and tags look fine in Tag & Rename, i dont know what could be causing it

A bit of ocam's razor here.

Is it possible this is just corruption. y umlout is iirc 255 or 128 in ASCII don't know what the symbol your seeing is in Unicode, but its possibly the same thing?

(Those two are easy to get with 0xFF signed or un-signed.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

Have you tried using "Album Art Downloader" which is open source and available on SourceForge. At first I thought the application you were using "Album Covert Art Downloader", was the same as "Album Art Downloader", as they look very similar. But it appears that the former is based on Python and the problem maybe Python related, if you made any changes to the version that was installed at the same time as the application. Anyway "Album Art Downloader" is very similar to "Album Covert Art Downloader", but it includes a wide range of web sources (Album Art Exchange, Amazon, Google Images, etc.) and has an active user forum.

Its strange that it affects 2/3 of my list, with the rest being fine/normal

Re: Something wierd going on with tags/file/folder names

i had exactly the same corruption problem on xp using freebie proggie tigotago .... in the end i tried a commercial mp3/wma tagger and never had a problem since ... though i still have to go back to tigotago for text file -> mp3/wma tags(and periodically get corrupt files)

try the trial of tag&rename and see if it helps

It might be aeird suggestion and a bit more haslt than it's worth, but you could download SqueezeCenter and get it to scan your library. it is very picky about tags and will likely show up any and all anomilies in your tagging.
