    DVR-MS convert?

    There must be some program out there that convert DVR-MS files. (preferably free)

    Just tried to record a program for someone and everytime i try to burn to a dvd through media center it comes up with an error and nero doesn't even recognise the file. Can't convert the file first either.

    Some of you guys that use your PC as a media center must be compressing you DVR-MS files, so what do you use?

    DVR-MS is just an MPEG-2 stream in a slightly custom container format. Altought I would suspect the container is based on AVI, WMV or VOB.

    Only problem is they want $39 for a year, and i'm a cheap scate . It keeps poping up with a water mark in the middle of the video file, not nice.
    Is there nothing free? Or mabee somthing cheap thats got a one off price rather than having to register every year?

    Re: DVR-MS convert?

    ffmpeg or mencoder might do it.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: DVR-MS convert?

    On Vista you can import them into movie maker, then export them as WMV
    Options are fairly limited, but it should work for most basic things.

    Thanks for that, never noticed.
    It gives you the option to put it as an AVI aswell but it went from being a 1.7 gig DVR-MS file to a 10 gig AVI.
    WMV will do for me, can get rid of the adverts while i'm at it too.

    A variant of the AVS converter by the same people, leaves a water mark unless you register.

    Re: DVR-MS convert?

    Another alternative is AutoMKV, which is generally awesome.

    VideoRedo is excellent for doing manual chopping (and can cut commercials automatically too, but I'd never trust those tools), but isn't free. It is certainly worth it if you archive or convert DVRMS frequently though.
