    major windows issue

ok some serious ****age happened on my computer.

basically my mam was trying to change the mouse last night. when she turned the computer back on nothing was working. so when i got up this morning to take a look at it, i got a mesage along these lines

    windows can't find

system32/config/system, file is either corrupt or missing, i did a double take wondering how the hell this happened.

booted into windows repair and hadn't a clue what to was just about to go to a net cafe when i turned to computer on to get the exact message when all of a sudden it booted normally. anyone know what the hell is going on? i'm afraid to turn it off again?

    cheers

what file system are you using, NTFS or FAT32? FAT32 is very suceptible to losing or corrupting data compared to NTFS.

run a full scandisk on the drive, see if it throws up anything wrong.

Ive had this before, tried copying the system file from another machine over but it takes a bit performance hit.

I think the system file is something to do with the system config so is different for each machine.

Try using the recovery console to recover the files.

ok thing is that its working fine now, so i don't know whats up, i'm not familiar with recovery console tbh, i should probably back up my documents and reformat and reinstall but i have no dvd burner and i don't fancy burning a hell of a lot of cd's
