    Solution: Windows Update Errors (Vista)

Here's a good place to search for solutions...

    http://www.microsoft.com/communities...xp=&sloc=en-us

Just type the error code you receive in the search box, which already says "update 800b0100"...

And look for solutions.. I've found a few. This, for example, helped me: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702

Good help from Microsoft Tech Support, which helps to solve certain Windows Update problems... Give this a try first... if it doesn't work for you, try what I have suggested below...

    http://www.microsoft.com/communities...2-8e1a243078c1

Note: this is for Vista issues... although it may solve the issue on other OS' as well.

I was having an error after I restored my registry to a previous point... I searched all over trying to find a solution, none of them worked.

I'm not certain but I think that the error code was "80244019".

In any case, if you're having any troubles with your Windows Update, specifically if you're getting a red "X" and an error, then try this easy step:

Check your Program Files... and uninstall Java... Goto Java's website and download the latest version.

Another step you might want to try if that doesn't work is to do the same for Microsoft .NET framework.

I was having difficulty installing updates until I uninstalled and reinstalled Java runtime...

    Good luck.

I'm still having minor problems with certain updates, but I no longer get this major red error which prevented me from even connecting or even beginning the process of updating... Now I've downloaded & installed many updates, there's only 7 giving me a problem, but I think that's something to do with my own stupidity and not a common bug.

    Good luck, hope it helps...

Re: Solution: Windows Update Errors (Vista)

I've found the only way to get the updates on his laptop was to find the update on microsofts website (using links from update description). Download and install it manually. This has worked for the 3 I've had problems with so far. Next one is SP1 which I'll download on my faster connection first. It is irritating though as its 70mb download from windows update (guess most of the fixes are already installed) - Its 400mb from MS website. I'm just hoping SP1 will fix the problem.

Never had a problem on my personal Vista box.

Yeah, that may work for some problems, but I think others are not solved by the manual method...

I did find this article, which I think will help with some people's problems... give it a try if you're still having any problems.
