    Vista GUI questions

I've been using Vista for a few months, but I find myself missing things I've taken for granted under XP (and earlier Windows). I don't know them all on top of my head, but they do bug me when I come across them, so I'll use this thread to check if what I am looking for is not just buried in an option somewhere.

    1. Under XP, the 'Status bar' showed the number of files and folders in the current folder and as well the total size of all the files in the current folder without the need to highlight anything.

Under Vista, I only see '# items' whenever I navigate to a folder. If I want to get more details (e.g. Size of all the files), I have to press Ctrl+A first. Is there any way to rid of this inconvenience (get it back to XP style)?

Thanks for the reply. The status bar still doesn't show the size of the files in the current directory (without highlighting anything). It just repeats the same information of the detailed pane.

I looked it up a bit further, and it seems that MS just decided to drop that feature under Vista: http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/mic...tatus-bar.html

Bit of a step back really - yet another reason I am still not warming up to Vista. It is handy to *quickly* know how much space is taken by all the files sometime. And you can't get any quicker than having it there by default.

You could always try a diff. file manager, I use FreeCommander http://www.freecommander.com/, it's got shedloads of features (most of which I haven't discovered yet).
