Freeware for converting Tape to MP3

I want to free up some cupboard space by binning all my old tapes and selling my tape deck, which I haven't looked at in years. I've hooked up my tape deck to the PC and started using Audacity to record to MP3 tracks. I've only done one tape so far in weeks as it is a bit fiddly to enter the track info and save the files. Is there a better piece of software out there?

    Try MP3DirectCut, here: http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

I've used this to split side-long MP3 tracks that came from recording direct to MP3 from vinyl (on an iRiver H340). Recording from a tape deck is pretty identical. The above software is great for splitting each side-long MP3 file into each actual track and labelling/tagging them with id3V1.1 tags. Works well, no multiple encoding to do.

I used Audacity as well when I did this a few years ago.
I did try some automated command line apps, which worked some of the time, but for some albums doing it manually is probably the only way you will be able to get a decent result.
Audacity also has a noise reduction facility whcih I used to reduce the tape hiss as well

No idea about MP3DirectCut it could well be a lot better than the ones I tried.
