    Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta - Virtualisation

Has anyone got it running in a virtualised form that isn't using Hyper-V? I'm having problems getting it installed under VMWare Server 2, and while I plan to spend the next few days figuring why and getting the ruddy thing working (I'm half leaning towards a duff .iso download, so that's my first port of call) I thought I'd see what people's experiences have been thus far.

Interestingly Windows 7 is working fine, which I guess backs up my theory of a duffed download.

No dice with the new iso, so tried under MS Virtual Server, which points to a problem with the CPU not being 64 bit capable: looks like time to have a poke in the BIOS (I must have disabled VT or something)

Do dice, VT was already enabled, and even the VMWare test reckons that the system is good to host 64 bit guests. Windows 7 64 bit seems to be working ok too, so I need to do some more research.

Anyone here succesfully virtualised Windows 2008 R2 yet?

Aha, a potential breakthrough. This may be down to no storage drivers for VMWare or Virtualbox being integrated in the Server 2008 R2 image, so I'm trying an install of W7, then upgrading to server 2008 R2 from there. I'll elt you know how I get along.

Re: Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta - Virtualisation

For the benefit of anyone else in future coming to this thread from the search function I finally nailed it as follows...

    Create a VM
Install Vista (do not activate or use a key on install)
    Install VMWare tools
Install Server 2008 as a clean install from within Windows Vista

Just setting up my 2008R2 test domain now

I'd imagine that VirtualBox and Virtual Server will work in a similar way.
