    Windows ME - Connection woes

    Morning

    Windows ME
    Internet Explorer settings
    - Connection
(ticked) Dial whenever a network connection is not present.

This is what I have set for a couple of laptops with Windows ME, but even with the LAN present, it still tries to dial and I cant work out whats wrong. In windows 98 this works fine.

    Any ideas? ta!

Eh? Not quite sure what your problem is!

    *Puts on Dunce Hat*

Can you not connect to the internet? Or does it dial when you don't want it to? If you want to connect through the LAN, set the radio button to Never Dial A Connection

Windows ME is crap at networking, if your networking cables are connected then all should work, try Windows XP Professional or 2000 Pro those two are good for networking.

Unfortunately not everyone can afford these 2 OSs, some people are just stuck with what they have. Either way, try changing Never Dial A Connection, I had to do that with my internet on Windows 2000.

    ta you two.
the thing is, these laptops are used in office, and on the road.
When in office, I want them to use the LAN as the internet connection (all connected properly). When on the road, I want it to use Dialup. Its annoying because its failing on something that works fine on every other OS we have :/

If it helps, try downloading all the Windows ME product Updates.
ON your behalf, i have just gave ME a spin and my networking is fine on it, try downloading the unofficial service pack thats floating the web somewhere, im sure that fixes networking bugs somewhat.
