Can't use speedfan to lower RPM?

    Hey there,

for the sake of trying out different RPMs and their volume etc, i downloaded speedfan to try decipher what sort of speeds i would like the fan in question to be running at.

The fan in question is plugged into the motherboard and displays fine on speedfan running at 1500rpm.

Only thing is, when i reduce the speeds of the "Speed01-Speed04" arrows, nothing happens?

    What am i doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    It's a Hiper "HiperFlow" 120mm fan. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105137

It's not the fan, but whether speedfan can control the output from the motherboard's fan headers. Sometimes it can, sometimes it can't. Depends on what they're connected to and the monitoring chip on the board.

Re: Can't use speedfan to lower RPM?

    In SpeedFan, click on "Configure".

    Click on the "Advanced" tab.

Choose the option from the drop-down box that has temperature and fan settings.

Change "PWM Mode" to "Software Controlled" and click the "remember it" box.

    Click "OK".

You might now be able to change the speed from within SpeedFan. If not, you will need to change your BIOS settings to something other than automatic, I'm not sure what the specific setting is.
