    MS disable autorun instructions updated/corrected

Thanks to the Register for pointing this out - apparently the previous MS instructions for doing this weren't correct and might have left some vulnerabilities. So now MS have issued new guidance for how to disable autorun here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953252

Disabling Autorun helps prevent virus transmission via infected media.

Funny how it mentions XP SP2 and Vista but not XP SP3.
I looked at this after seeing The Register's article yesterday, but didn't do it due to the omission.

    There are these as well:

    Its XP SP2 and later.

XP Sp1 and before are un-supported, but strangely used by my former employer (major German bank!) for all their desktop needs along with a very insecure linux distro..........
