Slow network transfer rates on vista 64bit

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue transferring any files into my i7 pc. The specs of my pc are:
    • Asus p6t deluxe mobo
    • Intel 920 i7 cpu
    • 3gb ddr3 ram
    • Seasonic 600w PSU
    • Windows vista ultimate edition 64bit
Whenever i transfer files from my laptop(Win XP SP3 connected wirelessly) to my vista pc its slow as hell transferring at a crawling rate of around 300kbps for a network transfer!

In my old pc which was running xp sp3, the transfer rates between my old pc and the laptop worked fine so im wondering if its a win vista problem or a setting that im missing?

My vista machine is in the same workgroup as the other xp sp3 pc’s and laptops i have. I don’t think it’s an issue with the Mobo either as i can download at max 1.8mbps on the internet lol.

    Cheers in advance

Was the issue of slow network file transfers not resolved in Vista SP1?

Are you sure it's just not wireless interference. I had a similar problem and when I changed from wireless to a lan cable the speeds went up alot.

Have you? The vast majority of slow network transfer issues were resolved with SP1. If you have... have you checked for an updated Vista NIC driver?

*always* check for new drivers. In my experience there's usually a raft of driver and BIOS revisions in the first 3 or 4 months of a board, after which things drop off.

Re: Slow network transfer rates on vista 64bit

I have just checked my drivers for my NIC and there all up to date :S im going to try and hook up my laptop with a wire and see if that resolves the issue.

maybe my laptop needs vista drivers for its NIC card? im not using vista on it though, just normal win xp pro 32bit

Re: Slow network transfer rates on vista 64bit

no, the hardware requires drivers that speak to the OS, not anything else.

I just re-read your OP and spotted that it's a wireless connection - odds on this is your issue and running a wired connection will fix it for you.

Re: Slow network transfer rates on vista 64bit

Have you tried wiring your laptop yet? It sounds like it's a wireless issue in my opinion.

Also, if you're only using one of your NIC's on your motherboard you can disable the one your're not using in your BIOS to eliminate the problem being the OS, Vista in this case, getting confused!

    Hope this helps...

Re: Slow network transfer rates on vista 64bit

On the Vista machine, you could try

netsh int tcp set glo aut=dis

Disabling the receive window scaling (autotuning) can improve transfer speeds with XP.
