Setting up dual boot for windows 7 & Vista

As the title says im planning on setting up a dual boot for windows 7 beta and vista.

I know how to create a partion and install 7 on that but how to i go about reclaiming that partion once i've finished.
My first thought was just to delete everything in it but what about getting rid of the option menu you get when you turn on the pc with two os installed.

Would i still be able to acces my files from the vista area?

Is there anything i should be wary of as this is the first time i've done dual booting.

Sorry. I know i shouldn't really be bumping this yet it's just that i wouldn't mind knowing the answer now.

To get rid of my windows 7 once i've finished with it would it be ok if i was to go to msconfig (via typing it in under the start search menu) > click on boot > select Windows 7 and click delete.

    Would this work ok.

If anyone would know it would be a real help as i want to install windows 7 but i want to make sure i can get rid of it first.

delete the 7 partition using vista disk managment, expand the vista partition using the same and then download a copy of vistabootpro and delete the boot entry

Well i found a prob before i even installed it.

When i go to partion my disc it only has 4gb max even though i've got 111gb free?

Why does it do that as i want to set it up a 20gb.

I'll second this; I've used it in several instances involving dual-booting with Vista and managing boot entires. I even used it to remove Vista's boot loader at one point when I got rid of Vista for a while on my old XP/Vista dual-boot config and wanted to just have XP; worked like a charm. Great piece of software. =)

Re: Setting up dual boot for windows 7 & Vista

Installing the two seperate O/S on 2 seperate drives is best way if you can easily select from a motherboard option (F12 on mine) which drive to boot from when your system boots up as its far less hassle to fix if the Boot loader corrupts and you can at least boot into one then. If that isn't an option and only have one hard drive then EasyBCD as mentioned above.

Hello handscombmp, my name is Rick and I work with the Windows Outreach Team. It looks like there is plenty of advice here in the forum, but I would like to point you to a pretty good guide on partitioning and removal of partitions here. wwwdotsevenforumsdotcom/tutorials/2674-partition-volume-create-newdothtml . Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Setting up dual boot for windows 7 & Vista

Rick, while you're here. Mind suggesting to the Windows development team that they give extra installation options on machines with more than one OS? As in boot setup options.
