Windows XP vs Vista for a Laptop PC

im planning to buy a netbook /laptop to bring to Canada where i will soon be working semi-permanently. would you advice me getting one that has XP or Vista?

which is faster and more friendlier? (like compatibility issues and stuff)

and if i choose XP will it still run those usual stuff like say Firefox 3.0 or iTunes 8 or MS Word 2007, etc.

    netbook: XP
    laptop: Vista

Performance-wise it is around the same on a laptop and Vista I find to be a lot more user friendly.

Everything works on XP cos it has been around soooo long...

Re: Windows XP vs Vista for a Laptop PC

but i heard Vista takes a considerable amount of memory from your main graphics card memory?

and would programs like Norton, Windows media player 11 work in XP?

    everything works on XP

I would my OS depending on the RAM of the netbook/laptop
vista need at least 2gb to start showing advantages like superfetcher

on a netbook i would stick with XP nlited to 250-300mb setup disc

You're worried about Vista taking up your memory (it's supposed to incidentally), yet you're running Norton?

As for graphics memory - I have no idea where you got that from.

Re: Windows XP vs Vista for a Laptop PC

If you buy a laptop it will come with Vista, if you buy a Netbook it will come with XP. So unless you want to spend more money on upgrading or downgrading whatever you buy, thats what you will be using.

XP might be less demanding on hardware than Vista, but on a Netbook there is less memory and processing power, so it is likely going to perform worse than a basic laptop running Vista.

Re: Windows XP vs Vista for a Laptop PC

    I have 3 laptops.....
    1 x work and 2 x home.

All had Vista when new and i removed it off them all as XP seems to run laptops far more smoothly.
They are all Dual Core machine btw.

The only thing i run Vista on is Vista Ultimate.

Re: Windows XP vs Vista for a Laptop PC

so if i have 2GB memory on my laptop PC with Vista would that be enough for multi-tasking jobs like surfing the net, downloading then uploading music and word documents? or you reckon 3GB will be the "minimum"?

It's not as if XP is a powerhouse OS anyway.
