    downgrade laptop to xp?

    Hey,
I'm having a hard time installing XP on my new laptop.
I don't need vista, so I'd much rather just install XP on it.
The problem is however, the sata drive.
I have found all drivers for XP except the sata drivers. (I wanted to slipstream them on my XP installation CD)
My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-NS11M.
Here is some more info about it (parts in dutch, but the specs are rather obvious i think )

Any idea where I can find the driver? The sony website only offers the Vista drivers...

Or are there maybe any other solutions?
I was suggested to change ahci into IDE in the bios, but I can't find that option in my bios anywhere :/

All help weld be really appreciated

    Thanks!

    Re: downgrade laptop to xp?

    Hey,
Thanks, but isn't that one for a floppy drive only?
My laptop doesn't have a floppy drive ... so will it work if I slipstream those?

    Re: downgrade laptop to xp?

Ok great, I'll give it a try, I do have one more question though:
When I insert the installation CD, I don't even get a warning that the drivers aren't found, I imediatly get this error: http://i44.tinypic.com/a4rjp3.jpg
So I assumed those were because of the missing drivers ... was I right, or is this another problem?

    Thanks

    Hey,
Downgrading to XP worked. But there's some stuff that isn't working yet ... I can't get any sound out of this, and I'm having trouble finding the right sound drivers.
The resolution isn't great neither, so I'm gussing there should be better drivers for that aswell ...

    Re: downgrade laptop to xp?

I find it odd that you "don't need Vista". it comes with a license and everything installed and working properly. Have you tried it? It seems to me you are having more issues with XP when Vista would have worked fine out the box.

To fix the resolution right click on the desktop and click properties, there should be a slider on one of the tabs and you should slide it all the way to the right to get max resolution. If it already at the max try installing the intel graphics driver for you laptop from the intel website.

Yea, I was able to find all drivers, everything works now except the FN keys, but I read you can't do anything about those.
    Thanks everyone!
