    Dedicated Server Hosting

    Hiya,

let's say I have a rack mounted server. Are there any dedicated hosting solutions that let us provide the server for them to host for us?

    Thanks

Ahh good, I considered them too, spoke to them on the phone today actually. 3000GB seems like a hell of alot of monthly bandwidth and that doesn't include communication between two servers on site (which I will be doing). Babaracus, if you sort this before me I'd be interested to hear your experience (naturally i will do the same)

For hosting our internal web system basically. So the stats seem like overkill but for 40quid a month per server (with rapidswitch) it seems very cheap.

    Re: Dedicated Server Hosting

well it sounds like a very low usage setup power wise, if your having 2 servers i do know rackage wouldnt cap the bandwidth so server to server wouldnt come into it, they charge by the u and by the amp though, it more of a gaming host though so im not sure if the price would be that low, you would need to talk to nick via support@rackage.com to get a price from him though as i dont deal with anything like that

The kit i've ordered should hopefully turn up soon ready for building / testing. I'm planning on hosting it mid-April so you'll probably have feedback before me... Let us know how it goes!

    Re: Dedicated Server Hosting

Ok so we have a server with Rapidswitch now and it all went very smoothly. I had started dealing with them, but hadn't yet configured the servers (was waiting to hear what IP addresses it needed giving). Anyhoo, I was unavailable so my boss drove the servers over to them without it being configured.

I asked them to quickly change the IP of the ilo device so I could go in and start sorting things, but they told me I had access to a free KVMoIP session (you get one each month) so I could do it myself. It works by VNCing into a machine that has KVM access. So I was able to configure the ilo on boot and go from there. You're given 4 hours fo KVM access at a time, so you could probably manage to send them an unconfigured server and go from there.

All communication (I have had) as been through an online message interface that works well and they respond quickly stating clearly if they are asking a question that needs specific confirmation (ie, we needed to buy a subnet from them).

    I am very impressed overall
