Windows 7 - setting up a network share with XBMC?

As per my post in the windows 7 reactions thread, I'm trying to share media with a network share to a soft-modded xbox running xbmc.

Create a homegroup, fiddle around with the settings to make sure it sees your xbox, pc and anything else, enable "media sharing" and you can either just use the windows PC as a upnp server for xbmc or share a folder.

Reminds me, I need to hard code a location in XBMC for mine so it doesnt take half a day to search for shares :/
I'll admit I got lost with "fiddle around with the settings". Really not sure how to see the xbox from the pc (I've always ftp'd any files to it in the past). any pointers gratefully received.

(I'm usually able to sort stuff like this with google, but it doesn't seem to have caught up to windows 7 yet )

I'm not sure whether I did to be honest. I think I did, but I gave up on Windows 7 for now as I use MCEBuddy to encode the DVRMS files from media center to something that the old xbox can handle. MCEBuddy can't cope with .wtv (?) files yet, hence the switchback to vista.

I keep meaning to try out dvrms toolbox which is a more complicated version of MCEBuddy, but haven't found the time.

Re: Windows 7 - setting up a network share with XBMC?

Ok - that's surreal. I've just been trying to see whether I can use upnp streaming to watch WTV files on the old xbox running xbmc, and this old thread of mine is hit number one in google for "xbmc upnp wtv".

I'll take that as a solid hint that I won't be able to do it....

(sorry for digging up old thread)
