    Triple boot

I dual boot windows 7, and xp pro, I have 3 hard drives and wondered if I could put windows 7 64bit on the third hard drive.
When my pc posts I get the option of windows 7, or earlier windows(xp) so I want windows 7 64bit, windows 7 32bit and xp pro 32bit.
Will this work and will I get the 3 options when my pc boots, I don't want to mess up what I've already got.

    Thanks.

    Re: Triple boot

I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work. It should be the same as dual boot so it should work fine.

    Re: Triple boot

Yes it will work. I'm currently running a tri-boot setup.
    • Windows Vista with SP1 (x64)
    • Windows Vista with SP2 Beta (x64)
    • Windows 7 Build 7000 (x64) [gonna change this to build 7022 soon]

Use EasyBCD to easily manage the boot entries.

I have a mate who has 7 operating systems on his laptop which include a few versions of windows, linux and cracked mac osx (not promoting the use of this btw) and he uses Acronis boot manager to do it.

    Re: Triple boot

    I'm currently multibooting:

    Vista 32bit
    7 64bit
    Mint 64bit
and XP 32bit (which hasn't been used for aaaaages, and is about to get nuked)

soon to add Vista 64bit to run parallel to get it up and running smoothly to change over from 32bit

    Re: Triple boot

Looks like I'll be doing it then, does anyone know if windows will give me the option which os to boot, or will I have to use a third party program.

    Thanks.

The windows boot manager will automatically detect and add the correct entries. But for easier management I'd suggest you use something like EasyBCD to rename the entries to something other than "Eariler version of Windows".

    Re: Triple boot

    Ok it's on
It lists 2 windows 7 in the boot list, I just have to remember which is 32 and 64bit.
It went ok but my scanner can't work(it is old).
The only thing I can see that it done differently from 32bit is it named the drive it's on "c" and I can't see my xp c drive in my computer. In disk management my xp drive has no letter.
What can I do to see what 64bit can do better than 32, or does it just generally run faster.

    Thanks.

you need to assign the other drive a letter in disc management

and 64bit just removes the low limitation on addressable memory 32bit is 4gb maximum addressable (in the whole system, e.g. RAM and vRAM etc)

    64bit maximum is 16TB

Use EasyBCD to rename the entries, so you can tell which one is which.

Google the make and model, I found my 5 year Dell Printer drives in x64 by Googling. They were not listed on Dell Support site.

This is normaly behaviour for a Windows 7 multi boot setup, it hides your XP drive to protect it from being inadvertently messed up.

Generaly I find x86-64 to be more stable overall and little quicker here and then. And of course having full access to my 4GB is always handy.
