    Emerge Desktop

    hey guys,
Recently i've had problems with my vista install, it became sluggish, explorer was using 70% of my q6600 so obviously something was wrong. I decided to go for a reinstall rather then spend the time scanning for viruses or things i deleted which i should have etc... After the install i did what i usually did when i get something new, or in this case reinstall vista lol... i started tinkering
Try to make it boot faster, try to get the ram usuage down, you know the usual...
Then i came across this... http://emergedesktop.org/
Basically its a replacement shell for explorer, now i've thought about replacing the shell before but i didn't want to break anything but being a new install i thought why not... I have to say it is great... Its basically a minimalist shell with no task bar or anything really... you get a system tray and the icons of running apps show up in the corner but thats it... the rest is up to you... heres what mine looks like... Keep in mind the clock in the corner and the rss feed are a bit naff atm but this is a different app running and i had to write the widgets myself

you're probably thinking why am i talking about this but i had never heard of emerge desktop so i thought i'd spread the word a little...

Just looks like rocket dock and rainmeter/samurize to me TBH...

    Re: Emerge Desktop

I've just visited the home page, and currently the first in the list of latest forum posts is: "Topic: EmergeDesktop Crashes."

I don't reckon any of these replacement shells are worth the hassle, but as always YMMV...

I like the dock, although it looks strangely familiar!
