Hi,

I am surprised no one mentioned Bit Defender 2009.
I am running this on my laptop and it is very light on system resources.

Its not free though.

engine hasnt been upgraded in the 2009 line, all they did was add loads of bloat such as registry cleaner to the top range....
not impressed.
i used to like bitdefender.

With regard to Avira I would also say that the support through the forums is good if you have specific issues.

Another bonus for Avira. If I've ever had a problem/query, they've always been very helpful over on the Avira forums.

I prefer Avira right now as it uses less resources than AVG8.

Another vote for Avira, they are very good.

The only problem is there is a ad to buy the "full version" that appears after each update if you use the free version, but oh well.

I wouldn't have paid for it, but the full version includes more than just anti-virus. It's a full security suite (malware, firewall, etc) which I don't want. I like each application to do one job, and I really dislike all-in-one software suites, but that's just my personal preference..

I'm getting problems with avg, like it won't update. Will try avast again, i used to like that one. May give AntiVir another try otherwise.

Yeah, that's my only annoyance with it. It doesn't stop me recommending it, though.

It is weird, but it definitely works. The only annoying thing is the weid 'click' sound everytime that you hover over an option.

How about the comodo anti virus and firewall in one.
I have been using it on peoples computers and it seems good enough to me.
I have the comodo firewall and Avast at the moment but next time I will probably just
have comodo.

Comodo is a really nice program. Used it myself and was well happy with it. I still use AVG these days and have dabbled with Avast. All good programs.
