Office 2007 Standard available in OEM ?

Just wondering if anyone knows if office 2007 standard edition is available in OEM form?

I can only seem to find the upgrade version. Surely this is the edition everyone pretty much wants with outlook, word, excel and powerpoint??

I don't understand microsoft they've made it far more complicated to buy office with 2007. It used to be very simple with very few editions.

It's almost like they are wanting people to pirate their software.

I don't understand how by giving you more choice about which version (so you only need to pay for the features you need) you think that Microsoft are encouraging piracy. Surely if they only did one version with everything in it would be more expensive than most people would be prepared to pay, possibly encouraging piracy?

Anyhoo, as far as I'm aware Office is only available through the retail channel - normally if you get it preinstalled by an OEM it's a limited period trial (60 days, if I recall) rather than an OEM licensed copy.

It wouldn't be the one I'd want. Depending on whether it was for home or business use, I'd go for either Professional (for commercial licence, and Access), or Home & Student (for non-commercial).

But then, I do have a need for Access (for work), don't have a need for Powerpoint and wouldn't use Outlook if you paid me.

As for your question, I've never seen or heard of an OEM version for Standard, but I don't know for sure.

Most of my clients love outlook sadly and need powerpoint not access so I either have to get them to get the professional license or not get them the software they need.

The standard version is perfect for them I just don't want to get the upgrade edition if I can avoid it.

If microsoft allowed you to buy each product on its own for a price that was fair that would give you a choice, coming up with random different packages which each have a different selection of the programs is not choice. Doing away with the proper OEM versions of office 2003 that came with a cd key and cd not the stupid pre install system of this version is plain idiotic.

Now I have the media required for any of the MLK kits now, but even so it's still a pain.

Yes it is. It's just not the one you want.

Not sure what you're driving at here - which "stupid preinstall of this version" do you mean? If you go into a shop and buy Office you get a license and install media.

Most people want the following outlook excel and word. However the cheap version the home and student one doesn't get outlook but powerpoint which makes no sense.

I am talking about OEM or MLK versions not retail copies or upgrade copies you get in shops. Very different products.

Hmmm... Personally I'd say that unless you're using something like Exchange then Outlook is an extravagance when Outlook Express/Windows Mail will take care of most of your email requirements. Powerpoint is in H&SE because it's used a fair chunk by students for presentations. MS Works didn't come with an email client either as far as I recall, and I'm not sure I ever saw a version of Office 2003 that came with only Word, Outlook and Excel.

Logically you're looking at H&SE (assuming it's not for commercial use, as the license doesn't cover that) and then a seperate purchase of Outlook (which *is* available standalone)

Splash, but that's an expensive way of doing and it's not covered for use by business which the clients are.

For office 2003 all versions were available in OEM form with install cds. The standard version included, Word Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint

I've found the answer to my question on wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Office_2007

Looks like for some bonkers reason microsoft don't do an OEM version of the standard edition, all the other version have one but not standard. Can we get a slow hand clap for microsoft's idiocy yet again. Sometimes I wonder why I bother persuading clients to buy legitimate microsoft software.

Not sure if it'd be of much use to you, but... http://www.lambda-tek.com/components...prodID=1315102

Granted, at £617 for 3 machines it's still not cheap, but you could always point people towards something like OpenOffice if they can't justify the expense.

Re: Office 2007 Standard available in OEM ?

I must admit, I have some trouble seeing how this is considered so expensive for business users.

Even the Prof version works out at about £65 per app if they only use 3 apps and get the upgrade, or about £95 per app for a full retail version. (i.e. about £240 and £290 respectively).

The Standard version, even in full retail, is about £60 per app for four apps. If they're business users and don't have enough of a justification for £60/app, then they really don't need it, do they? And even if they don't use one, like Powerpoint, it's still only £80 per app, and they could be using it for several years. If they can't afford that, point them at OpenOffice. If they won't afford it, tell them not to be such tight gits.

If we were talking about Adobe wanting £500 for Photoshop, even for home use, I'd agree. But a couple of hundred quid for a class-leading business office suite is petty cash for any real business.

I agree but most people still think office comes with windows. When you tell them it doesn't and the cost the tend to pull a very interesting face

I recommend open office all the time but its not for everyone sadly.

Its a shame we don't all get charity pricing. The homeless charity I support get office 2007 pro for £25 a seat!

Not sure if it helps OP, but if we're discussing where to get office from cheaply, students can venture here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/student/dis...k/default.aspx

£40 for a perpetual single user licence for everything.

NHS workers can get it for about £9 downloaded - know any nice nurses?

Watch out for paying for outlook.
Exchange CAL's are also outlook licenses, so you don't need to pay for outlook licenses if you use MS Exchange.
This is the one case where I think a CAL's being used properly.
