GB-PVR with Wintv Nova-T PCI tuner... help

I've tried and tried and tried and still no luck picking up channels, everything is connected correctly, I just cant seem to find a way to get channels. I've heard bad things about Wintv's bundled software so I havn't even installed it, my TV card is in the device manager with no problems and the drivers are up to date, I just cant seem to find a way to get channels.

Btw I'm trying to get free view channels SD.

Your question is too vague, what do you mean "you can't get channels"? What exactly is happening when you scan for channels? Have you correctly followed the GB-PVR source setup instructions here?

Have you tried any other TV tuning apps (eg Windows Media Center, MediaPortal)?

Hauppauge hardware is pretty well supported by most HTPC apps, and I'd be surprised if your card didn't work with GB-PVR, but you'll need to be a bit more specific about your problem and the steps you've taken so far.

To be fair, GB-PVR doesn't exactly make it intuitive - under Capture Source, click "Add," then in the "Create Capture Source" dialog, select "Digital Recording Plugin" from the "Recording Source" dropdown, click the "Settings" radio button next to it select your card (you could check "only show devices detected in this machine" to make it easier to find). Select your country/region, nearest transmitter, then OK to close the dialog box.

Then, (deep breath), select "DVB EPG Broadcast" from the next dropdown list, leave "No Channel Changer Required" as it is, then hit "Map digital channels to EPG channels." You'll be prompted to save the capture source, then it should automatically begin scanning for channels, which could take a while. Once it's finished, check the boxes for all the channels you want to appear in the EPG (ignore all the (Audio #2) channels).

If you do keep getting stuck, you might be better off checking out the GB-PVR forums themselves, where you're likely to find more specialised knowledge than here - unfortunately, most of these media centre apps are a bit fiddly and complicated to set up and they all have their own idiosyncrasies. Windows/Vista Media Center is the only one I can think of that makes the process relatively painless, but that has some limitations of its own, and obviously it's not much use if you don't actually have it.

For what it's worth, I mostly use MediaPortal these days - still not exactly a ten-minute job to install and configure if you haven't used it before, but much, much, better than it used to be, and IMHO the best (or perhaps that should be "least unsatisfactory") of the current crop of media centres.

This should work if you scan for channels - I have it working on both vista and xp (64 bit).
