I dont know what DVR-MS is exactly, and if it's DRM encoded then i've no idea how to break it.
However if you use GSpot to examine the codecs, there is a fair chance that AutoGK can convert it into an AVI.

Windows 7 doesn't use DVR-MS, it uses the new .WTV file format, although it will play back existing DVR-MS files from previous Media Center versions.

Unfortunately there don't yet seem to be any third-party utilities that can understand the new format - at least, googling "convert .wtv" brings up a whole lot of questions, but precious little answers...

edit: you could try this, and use DVRMS Toolbox on the resulting DVR-MS files, but from what I can gather the results can be a bit... errr, unpredictable...

Windows Movie Maker could read .dvr-ms files directly and manipulate them in Vista. Worth trying to see if Windows 7 Movie Maker can do the same with .wtv

Cyberlink PowerDirector can read .wtv files, which I presume means it can also convert them to another container, or at least to something which can be converted.

Re: How to convert media center tv recordings to divX

The only program that can convert .wtv files directly to divx is MCEBuddy 2.0 Beta . You'll need to join the forums and ask for access to the beta downloads.

I can vouch that it works well, theres just no proper GUI yet!
