    DVD Playback in Vista 64 bit

    Using WMP 11 and can't play back DVD's. I have installed K-Lite pack but that didn't work so tried another codec but that didn't work either, I keep getting the same error message;

    'Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.'

    What codec do I need to play back through WMP?

    I suspect therein lies your problem. As far as I'm aware Vista *should* play DVDs in WMPlayer out of the box. Codec packs like the one you mentioned cause way more problems than they fix.

    Vista Home Premium and Ultimate certainly play DVDs out of the box fine. Not entirely sure that Home Basic does and I'm almost sure that Business doesn't.

    I uninstalled the codec pack and still no DVD playback, I have the ultimate version of 64 bit. Is there something I may have checked/unchecked to stop DVD playback?

    I can pretty much guarantee that although you have run the uninstaller for the codec pack it has not fully removed everything.

    I didn't work before I had installed any codecs. It was a clean install of Ultimate

    A couple of suggestions in that case - you could try updating your VGA drivers (what card do you use, and which driver revision?), and you could try disabling Aero temporarily before launching WMP.

    Give those a shot and let us know how you get on.

    Also - according to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...spx#DVDDecoder Home Premium and Ultimate are the only 2 offering out of the box DVD support, so if you're running Ultimate you've probably got reason to submit a support ticket if this is a clean install.

    Disabled aero and I have the latest ATI drivers, running X1950 Pro but no luck. Might have to raise a ticket with MS then.

    On a side note when I go Tools --> Options --> DVD should the advanced tab be greyed out?

    sounds very strange as I use ultimate 64 with k-lite installed and all works fine. you may have a bigger prob there poss shown by k-lite not installing correctly.
