Hi all,
jsut updated my rig after 4 years. All went well and the system was running fine upto the point where Vista did it's final restart after installing (the one before you choose login name etc) and the system just hangs at the green bar on bootup.
After some fiddlign I removed my PCI Wireless card (aironet 802.11g card) and the system finished installation fine. OK so I went on the hunt for the latest drivers, downloadede and installed them.
Restarted the PC with the card in - same problem. This time I went into Safe mode (no networking) and disabled the card, restarted the machine and it booted fine. I then went into Device manager and re-enabled the card - Bingo! Card works fine.
Restarted the machine - hangs again.
basically I have reinstalled Vista (inc SP1) 4 ties now - twice x64 and twice x86. neither makes a difference. The card worked on my old setup prior to shutdown - Vista 32bit - although the driers had always been flaky at best! Bloody Cisco
i have looked for IRQ conflicts as I though itmight be that but the card has changed IRQ several times in these installs from 19 to 16 to 7 and the same problem follows it.
I am now faced with ordering a new PCI Wireless card and hoping it is supported in Vista - the one I have gone for is the cheapo Edimax card which by all accounts does a fine job.
I just find it so weird that this is suddenly not working on boot - any ideas? I have exhausted all my options.
Setup is:-
480W PSU
2 x 2GB OCZ Gold Edition 6400 5-5-5-18 RAM
ASUS PK5LM-AM Motherboard (latest BIOS (0511 I think...))
Intel E5200 2.5GHZ Pentium Dual Core Proc
Nvidia GeFroce 8600GT 512MB PCI-E
"generic" PCI 4 port USB card
Cisco Aironet 802.11a,b,g wireless card
150GB SATA Seagate drive
40GB Maxtor IDE disc
NEC DVD RW
Thanks guys,
Moose
