I have a mac and also have a ubuntu as a playaround machine, something to learn on, i only have a small desk tho, is their anyway to control my ubuntu box using my osx keyboard and mouse?

If you have both OS' displaying on different monitors on your desk, and you want to share the keyboard/mouse (reading what you've written correctly?) then an app called 'Synergy2' will fit the bill.
It can be found at http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ - the site has a pretty decent configuration guide for it too.

OSX support isn't complete (there are a few of the major issues on the homepage), but it works well enough - I've set it up for a buddy before by following the guide on the website - so it can be done!A

If it only CLI, then you should be able to set up SSH to do that for you.

ive used synergy before Really nifty tool though the last time i used it you had to start it each time on the linux machine manually
