    Email notification? (gmail)

I used to make use of my hotmail email account, and when signed into msn, got notifications of emials as they arrived.
    - Ive since tired of hotmails crappyness, and although i still use msn i now make use of my gmail account to send and receaive emials (most of which are fwd'ed from a number of domains i own).

I have a shortcut to my inbox obviously but rather then have the keep checking all the time, is there anyway i can get a popup notifcation of when a new emial arives simular to what i got with msn?(including the option to toggle it on and off)

that's just a very small app that runs in the system tray and will tell you whenever you get a new email.

^ Yes, gmail notifier. Does the job. Prompts for password on startup. Occasionally displays connection errors. Notifies you of new mail within normally 1 to 2 minutes of it actually arriving. I'm sure there will somewhere be a firefox extension which does it in a niftier way, too.

    Re: Email notification? (gmail)

I like using google talk: http://www.google.com/talk/

Download it and it will update you when an email arrives and gives you a direct link to click. Can't live without it, and much better than messenger Will notifiy you before it shows in the inbox, or immediately when, very useful and logs in automagically with windows if you ask it to start up with windows, and the notification can be toggled.
oh and it uses like no system resources, very light and useful to talk to the select few friends, rather than msn where I always get hassled

+1 for Googletalk. Like MSN for gmail, but without all the crap and people you don't wanna speak too.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/173 - Gmail notifier for firefox

or take a look at http://www.digsby.com for an all in one IM client, will allow you to check gmail / hotmail / facebook / twitter and give access to various other IM accounts (MSN/AOL/Google). Very useful little application.

Ive been using the above for a week now and it seams to work well.
    - I will have a rummage around and see if i cant find an plugin for opera on there forums/website. Although at the moment the main problem is geting gmail to render on opera at all. Im having to use chrome (or IE) for gmail as in opera i just get a garbled mess in the top left 2*3inches of the screen!
