CPU throttleing soft

I have just noticed someone mentioned throtleing on another post, I have just run GPUz nd saw that my video card is running different core clocks regarding on if its idle or if its on full load. It waries i think from 500 to 750mhz

i was wondering is there a windows untility that would do the same thing for my CPU? it would be nice if my clocks were automaticaly dropped from what they are now to w/e is possible on idle. Not because im conserned with power consumption saveing but with heating up my room, its OC now and if it could auto drop to say 1.6Ghz from what it is now 2.5Ghz would be awesome.

So is this possible and if so what utility does this? check my specs left

look for Cool & Quiet in your BIOS then install the AMD drivers and you should get the same effect on your CPU

sorry for being a lazy person here (or appear to be) i spent 30 min looking at AMD website and my mother board driver disk for 64 bit Cool & Quiet drivers but still cant find them. could someone help by provideing a link to where they are? as in the actual download link?

You don't need separate drivers - it's included in Vista and Windows 7. Just go to your power saving options and make sure to have some kind of power management scheme in place other than high performance (balanced is good).

To enable cool 'n' quiet you need to
1) Enable it in your BIOS
2) Install the correct driver for your processor. Windows will probably already have done this for you but it is worth checking. Note - this is the driver for your CPU, not for cool 'n' quiet.
3) Set your power scheme to something other than high performance, or change the plan settings to allow CPU clock speed to be reduced.

ok sorry for asking stupid questions, i had AMD for ages its just now i started to bother with the cool'n'quiyet thingy. summer is coming up and i dont really care for power saving but what gets me is how hot my room gets.

Just last question:

On 7 it only throtles when the pc is sleeping, is there a external utility that would slow it down when im not doing anything intensive? eg. word, hexus, facebook etc

W7 doesnt do it

my last night my comp been on all evening my room reached a temp of 35C and all i been doing is Course work and room windows were wide open. i need something that slows it down when im using the pc not just when its sleeping

It probably wont work while overclocking. Run at stock frequencies/voltages, and see if Cool 'n Quiet works then.

Good catch - only just noticed this myself. XP used to throttle when idle, but win 7 doesn't seem to for me either.

i had another idea, what about getting a windows overclocking utility and manualy lowering the speed? but then i couldnt find a OC utility that would work in W7 X64

any help here either?

kalniel i see were roughly in the same situation, if you look at our specs on hexus profiles we pretty much got identical stuff (give or take) and the video card we got does it automaticaly...why cant it be done as easily on cpu?

The latter doesn't have a signed driver so can't work* on Vista/7 x64, but looks promising otherwise. The former might work okay since they now have a signed driver.

I might have put that down to me having an X2 rather than AM2, but georgy has an AM2.
