    MS Outlook 2007 'Personal Folders'

    Hi everyone,

Long time since I've posted here, been too busy with other stuff and work.

Anyways, for my e-mail I use an IMAP server so I can download e-mail on my iPhone and PC. When I set this up within Outlook 2007 it creates another folder 'Sky Mail' I called it.

Problem is, personal folders is still at the top of the list and it is entirely empty as I would expect.

Just wondering how I could remove this from the list, had a look in options and right-clicking on it but I'm at a loss.

Any help would be great as its been driving me nuts!

I'm just setting up my connection to GMail to test this, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's down to your default mail delivery location - will come back to you in a few mins.

Hokay, seems I have the answer... Outlook stores your contacts (and by default your sent items) in the PST. Not sure there's a way around it

Re: MS Outlook 2007 'Personal Folders'

Not 100% sure on this... but I think you can, on the top menu, go to Tools > Account Settings. Here you should have 'Personal Folders' and 'Sky Mail', select 'Sky Mail' and click the set as default button at the top, then select 'Personal Folders' and hit the remove button at the top.

I would give it a go, but don't want to end up deleting all my mail/contacts etc! Since I am using the personal folders section
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: MS Outlook 2007 'Personal Folders'

    Hi mblaster,

I gave that a try however I get a message saying:

'The default data file cannot be removed, because it is your default delievery location. After you have selected a different default delivery location, your current file can be removed'

    That's where it lost me!

Oh right. Did you check that your 'Sky Mail' account had been made the default one? Should have (send from this account by default) written on the right side. Also, it automatically puts the default one at the top, so if you change the default account it'll swap the two accounts round, I missed that at first.

Also, if that doesn't work, try going to the 'Data Files' tab on that same window, and set the 'Sky Mail' account as the default here. Restart Outlook and this may allow you to delete the other account.

Re: MS Outlook 2007 'Personal Folders'

Maybe I didn't explain that well.

If I go to Tools>Accounts, on the first tab 'e-mail' there is only my Sky account visible.

When I go to the Data tab, Sky Mail is at the top (set as default) with Personal Folders beneth it.

However, in the comment section for Personal Folders it says 'Default', even though it is no longer set as default???

Re: MS Outlook 2007 'Personal Folders'

    Hi zwr,

Thanks for the post, however the .pst file isn't actually corrupt.

Seems to be a 'feature' that Outlook has with IMAP servers. With a POP server, mail automatically goes into the default 'Personal Folders' area.

IMAP on the other hand creates a new folder and for the life of me I still haven't found out how to combine or remove the Personal Folders.

Going back to OS X as my primary OS soon anyway, so will be using a different client - Mail.
