Anyone checked out our stats recently? We've some serious big hitters!
Lets just say that Lowe and his mighty crunching farm is only 4th place!![]()

Have you been stealing my TORG points too?!
Not checked in a while....
I'm really sorry but I've stopped folding until they fix the bug in the SMP client.
I cannot "lock up" my PC using CTRL+L so that I can keep it powered on all day "securely" downloading and folding because the first time you press CTRL+L the SMP client decides to soil it's own underwear and crashes all the time.
Now seeing as I use the "lock" on the PC all the blooming time when I go for a quick ciggy or log off so someone else can pop on for 10 mins it's just not viable to keep installing it all the time, especially as my PC time has become chronically limited in the last few months.
Woohoo! 1 Million points. That took a little while.
Currently only running on about a 3rd of my normal power until early May. Back to normal soon tho guys![]()
You mean tomorrow?![]()
One Q - does the SMP client support 8 cores on a box?
Butuz
I believe there is a command line switch for this, can't remember what it is off the top of my head though.
Or you can run two instances (stored in different folders) with different machine IDs set in each one.
i checked 1 stat out, a new fellow called stevie_lee has completed 1 WU got 511 points and in place 209
no guarantees i'll carry on, theres games need a playin'!
the urge to get past rastaman might be enough encouragement though (only 3 points behind him) and in 332,000 points ime i'll be past TAKTAK -yay-
Congrats Stevie - just joined myself too
Lets get on up there!!!

Welcome guys.
To run 8 cores, I am running two instances of the smp clients with different machine ID's. Works well if the clients stay active but had it where if one crashes out, so will the other. Still, just that box is give 4k ppd.
Cheers Raven. It's a shame the FAH client seems to be 10+ years out of date - I used to run SETI a long time ago and you had the ability to run as many CPUs or cores as you wanted on as many boxes as you could and manage it all from a central SETI server box if you so wished - FAH is so far behind it seems a pain in the bum for anyone who has more than one powerful system.
I would rather put CPU cycles and electricity towards FAH though - it's for as good a cause as you can get.
Another interesting quirk of this project is that it seems you are far better off fitting 4 x graphics cards in each box rather than actually having racks full of quad core servers. Kinda cool.
Unfortunately I've got no GFX cards

I think part of the issue with F@H is that the results have to be proven to be correct. This means there needs to be extensive testing of each release. Probably with some fairly intense validation as well.
I'm sure they speak about the process they have to go through before releasing a client in one of their blogs or FAQs. Does make some interesting reading.
