A FEW Qs ABOUT DUAL BOOTING

    At the moment I'm dual booting XP & win7 32bit (7000) on different C & D partitions (same drive).

    First Q? would there be a problem dual booting xp & win7 RC, (32 & 64bit) together?

Q2, can I still install win7 RC by mounting the image from XP (as i did with the earlier version)?

Q3, would I be better to format my D partition first from XP before mounting the image of the RC.
( because it still holds the old version of win7 on it)

or just mount win7 RC & let that do the formatting itself?

    cheers ;o)

I am dual booting xp and win7 64 bit but you will need to boot from cd can't install from within xp. You won't need to fromat other drive as it will hold old windows files in windows.old on that drive.

Can you explain a little more, please?

Don't forget I am hoping to overwrite my old win7 on the D partition with the new 64bit win7 RC1.

thanks for replying by the way;o)

Re: A FEW Qs ABOUT DUAL BOOTING

Just been told elsewhere, that I can install win7 64 iso by mounting it from within xp.

Yet the poster (atmadden) above says I have to boot from disc!

    Can anybody confirm?

If your installing 64bit RC in xp 32bit then yes you need to have it booted via cd, you cant install 64bit programs in 32bit.

Sorry to hijack thread but can someone tell me what program i need to enable the dual boot menu? I lost it after reinstalling XP to sort out my graphics problem.

Can't say I looked to see if a reformatting option is available in the setup menu, but previous versions of windows always let you do it, so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to overwrite the previous installation. Isn't there an 'advanced settings' button?

To re-enable the bootloader use something like EasyBCD, or VistaBootPro.

Re: A FEW Qs ABOUT DUAL BOOTING

    Hicks12 is right!!!

Just to let you know, I tried mounting win7 64 in xp & it wouldn't have it.
    So I mounted a newer version of win7 32 (7100RC) & that installed fine.

So xp diddn't like me running 64bit, which confirms you have to boot from a disk to install the 64 bit edition.

    thanks for all your help
