    Outlook MD5 Challenge-Response

    Hi guys,

Im trying to create a imap account in Outlook. Our Mac eMail server uses MD5 Challenge-response for authentication.

Does anyone know anything regarding MD5 challenge response for Outlook?

    Thanks

    Darren

Surely, it's as simple as typing your password in when you setup your account, and then telling it to encypt your password when it sends it?

That's what i thought, but in Outlook the MD5 option isn't available.

I enable SPA and thought that was all i had to do?

Outlook doesn't play very nicely with IMAP, and I don't think MD5 is supported. You can either change the mac e mail server to accept plain (where MD5 isn't available) or use a better client such as Thunderbird.

Thanks all for your help so far.

The message i'm receiving now is......

Checking for mail in subscribed folders on ******* reported error (0x800CC0E) : Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from the IMAP email server for account ******. Error: Unable to connect tot the server. If you continue to receive this message ..... blah blah contact admin.

    Re: Outlook MD5 Challenge-Response

I don't think that will help - it sounds like an authentication problem which would tie inm with the MD5 issue. If you can download Thunderbird and get it working with that, you will have demonstrated that you can connect, then transfer the settings to Outlook (if you have to use Outlook)

    Re: Outlook MD5 Challenge-Response

    Cracked it!

It seems that people encountering this error have had some degree of success by unticking 'Exchange Extensions':

    From http://weblogs.asp.net/kdente/archiv...2F00_IMAP.aspx
"we removed Exchange Extensions and iTunes AddIn which appear to have cured the problem for us.

    Outlook2003/Tools/Options/Other/AdvancedOptions/Add-In Manager/Untick Exchange Extensions property.

    Also,

Outlook2003/Tools/Options/Other/AdvancedOptions/COM Add-Ins/ remove anything that isnt essential, (we removed everything)
    "
    And then restart Outlook.

    Re: Outlook MD5 Challenge-Response

Useful to know - in Outlook 2000 there is no Imap support at all if you use the feature set that includes Exchange support, so it must be a similar issue.

IMAP support in Outlook really isn't very good - try Thunderbird! (The best was Mulberry, sadly no longer supported very well, although it is available as a free download, for Windows, Mac and Linux.)

Evolution is also very good, but only on Linux, although you might be able to get it to work on later BSD based Mac systems, but not something I have tried. For Mac, Entourage is another good email client, but I haven't looked to see what its IMAP or Windows support is.
