The only issue I have with vista is that Internet Explorer crashes every now and again but this is linked to the piclens application as it is this that is constantly being reported to Microsoft

Other than that, I actually find it easier to use once you've 'forgot' the Start menu layout from XP and use the quickfind.

Yup - same as the majority posting in the thread, no real problem with Vista. It was pretty sluggish with games at release mainly due to the driver support and I do get fed up with resetting my folder options in explorer but all in all it's been fine for me.

I will be upgrading to Win7 on release. I'm using Vista32 and want to go 64bit. No point upping now to Vista64...

Quite happy with Vista 64/32 on my Desktop/laptop never had any problems really, even on an old-ish PC, no hurry for Win7 - does look nice though.

The biggest win for me with Vista over XP is the far better power management and the fact that i can sleep (S3 mode) and wake my PC very quickly and it's very stable after waking, which was always a problem with XP. That coupled with Wake On Lan gives me a very efficient media server.

I don't really know what benefits moving Win7 with give me TBH. Although i am a sucker for eye candy.

I put up with IE crashing for months and never realised that, that must have been causing it, I just presumed it was IE being flaky and as I usually use firefox didn't really care.

Re: Do you find Vista that bad.

First taste of vista I hated it because it performed really badly due to driver problems... gave it a few months and came back to it when SP1 was released then I loved it! Now I'm on windows 7 RC and its even better. I don't think I could go back to XP now, using it on my eee it seems unstable and clunky. If I wasn't playing games on my Eee I would put Linux on there... unfortunately I think windows 7 is out of the question on my Eee because I only have 12Gb of space in total, 4Gb on the faster SSD.

Re: Do you find Vista that bad.

I have no complaints with Vista. I got off to a shaky start with Vista, solely due to driver issues (and the same was true with XP) but over time I either updated to more stable drivers, or ditched the problematic hardware. I'm noticing a trend now where newer hardware and software works better in Vista than it does in XP. I've always found onboard audio uninspiring under XP, even the newer HDA codecs, but the new HDA driver in Vista is very good feature-wise and for the first time ever I'm running my main system without a discrete Creative sound card.

At the moment I prefer Vista 64 to windows 7 RC. Might just be a horror of new things, but I found Vista more intuitive. And a bit faster too weirdly...

Same. It seems faster espically on boot up.

Ditto, we'll have to wait until more drivers and software to come out for Win7.

Re: Do you find Vista that bad.

I've been using Vista 64bit for about 2 months now and I've grown to quite like it.

Before I had only used Vista on my benchmarking PC and found it slow and just didn't like the way it looked or even just using it but it took a while to get used to.

Now I dont benchmark as much its ideal, was on XP SP2 before for years.

I'm using vista64 with 2gb of ram, disabling the superfetch service drastically improved my systems performance, the hours on end hard disk grinding (including when I'm afk) has also stopped.

I've been very happy with Vista 64. I only started using it once SP1 was released so I never experienced all the toothing problems.

Re: Do you find Vista that bad.

I have heard nothing but good things about W7. Apart from PunkBuster not working, but that is only because they don't want to release a patch for a Beta operating system. May stick with Vista for a while, to wait for the W7 price to drop a bit and hear what everyone else thinks of it before considering getting hold of it.

Not at all. I had no idea of what people's view of Vista as I was too busy with various things in life to pay note when it came out. When it came to buy a new laptop, I was offered the option of XP Pro or Vista Business. I picked Vista in good faith, not expecting to be blown away. First impression were:

    1. Performance: Definitely behind XP, at least 32bit. 3GB of RAM, 2.5Ghz Core Duo CPU, GeForce 8400M GFX Card. Sure it's not exactly a gaming machine, nor did I use it as a gaming machine. Winner: XP

    2. Security: People say it's good. People say it's better than XP. I have no reason to doubt this. Winner: Vista

    3. Stability: Can stay on for weeks without reboot. So could XP. Winner: Tie

    4. User interface: That's where I feel they've taken two steps forward (improve certain things over XP) but taken three steps back (dropped or changed perfectly useful features in XP). And I think I am being generous. If I am ever going to make an AVGN type of video, it would be on Vista UI. I am not going to start, I've made a few threads either in this forum or the help one for some the issues I've encountered, and I do not think any of them were resolved simply because I asked for things that were but aren't anymore. Others on this thread may disagree, but for me, Winner: XP

Now you are not going to catch me blindly praise Windows 7 simply because I've not even used it for an hour so far. Performance wise, I would give Windows 7 the win over Vista. I dare not say that it's faster than XP at this point. I am not going to go out of my way to find flaws in W7, just as I did not do so with Vista. It may well be that all those UI issues I had with Vista were left unchanged because I was the only one who found certain things useful.

On a side note, I am also having the same issue Toolsong mentioned in #17. It is pretty annoying, and I just don't understand how such basic functionalities can end up broken.

Re: Do you find Vista that bad.

TooNice hit the nail on the head for me.

I found XP much better than Vista, the driver support wasnt great and XP seemed better performance wise. I had a nightmare with a few driver issues on one of my desktops.

Win7 seems great, i tried it last weekend and it seemed sound, the driver support isnt available for everything yet, i.e vista drivers for my G15. But it still works due to the compatibility mode.

I was pretty impressed with win7, i thought it was going to be vista with a few more bells and whistles on.

Also, the startup time was fine for me?
