Since my brother has decided to make his (my old) PC redundant, I thought that I would (soon) add a couple of larger hard disks, ana make it into a server. It is system 4 in my sig, and will need to communicate with 3 vista machines, and 1 xp machine (less important), and PS3. Has an XP home licence, but I think that I will need to get some kind of free server (linux based?) software.
It is to primerally be a file server/backup server, with media compatabilities. Would like it to auto shutdown when last client dissconnects at certain time, and I can setup a WOL, as I allready have this for one PC in the home.
Thx, will
Edit: would be nice if it worked with tight VNC too![]()

- fileserver-wise Samba can more than handle it. Backup and media wise I'd probably be looking to bump the RAM a little, especially if it's to be transcoding.
