Vist or XP 32bit or 64bit............I just can't decide which to use

I've always preferred XP 32 bit if I'm honest, never had any compatibility issues and what I'm used to over the last 2-3 years.

That said for the last year I've been using Vista 64 Ultimate to make the most of my 4 gig of Ram.
It's been ok and I've kinda gotten used to it but I need to reinstall windows and I'm just not sure what to go with.

I mainly game so I understand that 32 bit systems only see around 3.25 gig of RAM, I'm not sure how much more extra performance you get using the full 4gig or what impact losing that memory will have on my pc experience. I do a lot of multitasking so I'm guessing it does come in handy.

If it's not noticeable then I'm thinking I'll go back to XP 32 bit and just keep going with that.

    Any pointers?

    Cheers

Vista 64 bit or Win7 RC1 64 bit. Installing a 32 bit OS these days is madness unless you need compatibility (which it doesn't sound like you do)

64 bit vista for now defo!

xp is old and wrinkly, vista has its wrinkles ironed out, i only went vista about 2 months back and its a improvment to say the least.

    What splash said.

I really don't see the point in using an eight year old 32bit OS on a current 64bit system unless there is a specific need to. Especially when you have 4GB of physical RAM in there. Been using Vista for two years on my laptop, and it's been 64bit since October. That self install has been much better than the Asus one ever was. Also been using Vista 64bit in my desktop system (see my PC spec to the left) since last September (ish). I wouldn't bother puting XP on anything these days.... unless it is an old system I'm re-installing for someone that is.

64bit is quicker, will see/use all your RAM.

32bit only makes sense for 2gig systems which will never need more RAM (or systems that can't do 64bit like my atom notebook) - good example is my media centre: 2gig is enough and vista32/win732 are on it.
