Re: WinTV Nova TD-500 and MCE

I realised that while a couple of bits of software (WinTV, GBPVR) apparently gave a perfect picture but the others didn't (MCE, MP), they failed just like the rest when I tried to use both tuners at once. From that I suspect that this is a hardware/signal issue after all, since it would appear that my Hauppauge tuner can't handle the low quality signal off mux 2 but my BT Vision box can.

So I'm either going to have to invest in another tuner - don't like the idea of buying expensive tuners at random and hoping they'll work though. Or getting a professional to have a look at our aerial setup - more expense but hopefully a good chance of a result, we're only 7 miles from the transmitter!

I would recomend the aerial and cable looked at. Definitely going to be better in the long run.

Re: WinTV Nova TD-500 and MCE

If you're only 7 miles from the transmitter, it's possible that your signal is too strong for the WinTV card. This is a common problem with many newer silicon tuners whereas your BT Vision box likely uses traditional in-can tuners.

Try an in-line attenuator of 6dB to reduce the signal strength.

Re: WinTV Nova TD-500 and MCE

Actually I've just this afternoon installed a cheap Pinnacle tuner I got off ebay, dual analogue and digital tuners on a PCIe card and it works perfectly.

Hopefully the saga's at an end now!

Shame I didn't know before, I spent £12 on the new tuner and around £50 on the Hauppauge one, hopefully I can make some of that back by selling it.
