    Best Temperature Monitoring s/w ?

I have been tinkiering around with my E8400/MSI P35 Neo2 FR/Scythe Mine and got it to 3.9 with a reasonable amount of ease. My question now is that i'd like to monitor the temperature of both the CPU and my GPU whilst gaming.

I tried fitting temp probes before with an akasa front fan speed panel and it was a nightmare and I made a mess. (I now use a zalman 6 chnl fan speed panel - nice and simple!) Is there a program that i can use with an external display that will tell me what my main temps are??? The simpler the better - just need CPU and GPU cores.

I have tried SysMon - which seemed pretty good - but has now expired (21 day trail), and I'm playing with speedfan atm - but wanted to check if they are accurate and what external display I could use with what program.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Temperature Monitoring s/w ?

Accuracy is a hard one to define - probably the most accurate will be the reporting system in the bios as that will be matched (but not calibrated) to the sensors on the mobo.

However that is no good when the OS has booted and you are using the machine.

However, while absolute temperatures might be interesting, to some extent it is the change that is important - is the temperature going up? In absolute terms it doesn't matter if the temperatutre is reported as 30 or 40, but it does if it is 70 or 80. So one way is to calibrate the software against the bios reports so at least you have comparative measurements. And, tbh, the accuracy you are likely to get is only going to be within 1 or 2 degrees anyway.

I know this hasn't directly answered your question, but it seems (having llooked at similar posts) that what is best on one mobo may not be the best on another.

However you say that you have had good results with one particular product - why not stay with that one?

As for interfacing with external displays... Asus boards used to have a connector that allowed you to connect a panel (I-panel IIRC) and that was a purely hardware (and proprietary) solution. Other hardware solutions (as you have discovered) require additional sensors. I don't know ifthere is anything that interffaces to the bios calls (Or OS) that would drive an external display. It seems possible, but I don't know if it has been done. I guess you have used friend Google?

it wouldn't be exactly what you're after, but you can get little USB TFT displays - you could use one of those and run your system monitoring software on it while you're gaming on your main display, perhaps?

Thanks for the response, truth is I was getting on nicely with SysMon. It seemed simple, sat tin the tray, and like you say all I really need is to be able to set up an alarm if the temp increases too much -just need to check if thats available in the full edition of that application - truth is I didn't really want to shell out $20 for the program

RealTemp will do CPU & GPU. It can be minimized to systray. Set alarms, record temps anything basically.

HD Tune (free) will do temps for HDDs.

Re: Best Temperature Monitoring s/w ?

Right , I've just had a thought (annual event so listen up) Could I use the really pretty LCD screen built into my G19 screen to monitor my temperatures. Did a quick google and Coretemp seems to work with G15 - anyone got any experience?
